At the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT-RC), we are committed to embedding circular economy principles into our research and development processes. Our strategy focuses on creating closed-loop systems where materials and products are designed to be reused, remanufactured, and recycled, thus minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency.

The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT-RC) features a multidisciplinary team engaged in developing advanced biobased products and materials. Our experts utilize biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies to innovate and address key technological challenges. By understanding and controlling material functionalities across multiple scales, we aim to support Morocco and the African continent’s transition toward a green and circular economy.

Youssef HABIBI

Director

Dr. Youssef Habibi is the Director of the Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT-RC). Under his leadership, the center focuses on developing advanced biobased products and sustainable materials using innovative biotechnological, physical, and chemical strategies

Sylvain CAILLOL

Proffessor

Sylvain Caillol, Research Director at CNRS, specializes in Biobased Polymers and Sustainable Design of Polymers.

Larbi OULARBI

Assistant Professo

Holds a dual Ph.D. in Physical and Analytical Chemistry. His research focuses on sustainable materials for engineering and environmental applications.

Abdelhaq BENKADDOUR

Proffessor

Gilbert Hughes joined Hub Constructon in 1955 as an estimator/project manager, after previously working months as a laborer.

Fatima-Zahra AZAR

Assistant Professo

specializes in Catalytic Conversion of Biomass. She focuses on designing heterogeneous catalysts for bio-refineries, waste recycling, and environmental applications.

Imane BJIJ

Assistant Professo

Her research interests span both molecular modeling and materials science. Currently, she focuses on emphasizing the use of molecular modeling tools in exploring biobased materials.
