Kotaro Satoh received his Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from Kyoto University under the supervision of Professor Mitsuo Sawamoto in 2000. He worked as a researcher at Kuraray Co., Ltd. from 2000 to 2004 before joining Nagoya University as an Assistant Professor with Professor Masami Kamigaito. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007 and served as a visiting scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with Professor Craig J. Hawker (2009–2010). In 2019, he was appointed Full Professor at the Department of Chemical Science and Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology (now Institute of Science Tokyo). He has received several awards, including the SPSJ Award for the Encouragement of Research in Polymer Science (2008), the Young Scientists’ Prize (MEXT, 2012), the SPSJ Asahi Kasei Award (2012), and the SPSJ Wiley Award (2015). His research focuses on precision polymerization and the development of bio-based and sustainable polymers from renewable vinyl monomers.
